A Message from the Chief Executive of the CSWS
Note From The Chief Executive
Throughout history, women have constantly fought to improve
their position in the family and society - to gain the right to vote and other
forms of equality. For example, the Greeks may have invented democracy, but
they did not give women the right to vote and no function of political
governance. Such treatment of women in the past left a legacy that has not been
fully overcome in the 21st century. Consequently, the question "what has
changed?" " since ancient times and how much women have managed to
fight for a better status in all spheres of life and work over time. Namely, if
we focus only on ancient times, placing this topic in the legal, economic and
social framework of that era, it is a good basis to make a connection with
modern times. However, the connection between women in ancient times and the
position of modern women was not made enough, so there was a gap in our
understanding of the role that women played in the past and left as a legacy to
modern women. Despite this, throughout history, women have contributed
significantly to economic and social development through the various roles they
have played. Many of those roles and their contributions were often lost or
buried under the wealth of new knowledge.
The journey from ancient times to the present day highlights the
resilience and adaptability of women in the face of changing societal norms.
While there have been significant advances, the pursuit of gender equality and
empowerment remains an ongoing effort. It is up to us, through this network, to
shed light on all that knowledge and dust off the oblivion of all those efforts
that were made in the past in order to better fight for our future.
